How it works
Air Source Heat Pump Installation
Where the property suits one, an air source heat pump delivers several units of heat for every unit of electricity it draws.

How a heat pump earns its cost
A heat pump moves heat rather than generating it, extracting warmth from outside air even in cold weather. That is why it can deliver more heat energy than the electrical energy it consumes — the reason it is treated differently from direct electric heating.
It depends on the building
Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures than a gas boiler, so they work best in a well-insulated property with correctly sized emitters. In a draughty house with small radiators the result disappoints. The survey establishes whether the building suits one before anybody spends money — and if it does not, we will say so.
MCS certification
We are MCS certified for heat pump installation, which is the requirement for accessing government grant funding where a property qualifies.
The survey does the honest work
A heat pump survey is mostly arithmetic: the building’s heat loss, what the radiators or underfloor system can emit at low flow temperatures, where the outdoor unit can live, and the state of the insulation. If the numbers work, a heat pump is a genuinely efficient way to heat a home. If they do not, we will tell you what would need to change first — or point you at a system that suits the building better.
Suitability
Where it suits — and where it doesn't
Well-insulated properties
Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures than a boiler, so they reward buildings that hold their heat, with emitters sized for the job.
Homes off the gas grid
Where the alternative is oil, LPG or direct electric heating, the heat pump’s efficiency counts for the most.
Draughty houses with small radiators
The honest answer: the result disappoints. Insulation or emitter upgrades come first, and we will say so at survey rather than after installation.
Paired with solar and battery
Solar PV and battery storage supply the electricity a heat pump runs on — designed together, they bring the running cost down further.
The scope
What's included
- MCS certified installation
- Full system design and survey
- Works with underfloor or sized radiators
- Eligible for grant funding where applicable
How the job runs
-
Free home survey
We visit, measure each room and look at how you actually live in the house. Heat output is sized per room — a guess made over the phone is how people end up cold in the room they use most.
-
A written recommendation
You get a clear proposal setting out what we would install, why that specification, and what it costs. No pressure and no obligation to go ahead.
-
Removal and disposal
Removal and disposal of old storage heaters, convector heaters, boilers and cylinders is part of the job, and we make good afterwards.
-
Installation and handover
We install, test and then show you how to run it. Getting the controls right is most of the saving, so we do not leave until you know how to use them.
Covering Christchurch & the South
We provide heat pump installation throughout Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch, Weymouth, Dorchester, Salisbury, Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Somerset, Devon and the surrounding area — planned at a free home survey, with a written recommendation and no obligation.
